Two boats. Your group crosses together

18 seats on foot per crossing. With bikes, up to 11 cyclists in one go: people in one boat, bikes in the other.

First crossing at 06:00

For pilgrims who start the stage at first light. The boat is at the pier before you are.

We’ll pick you up where you’re staying

Hotel or albergue: we collect you and bring you to the pier. Free — book it the day before.

Two skippers. Two boats. One river.

The person who answers the phone is the person at the helm. We know this river, its tides and the wind at the mouth — and we’ve been taking walkers across it since 2019.

Crossing the river means changing time zone.

Spain is one hour ahead of Portugal: at 06:00 in Caminha, it is already 07:00 in A Guarda. On this site, every time is given in local time at the pier you board from. Check the time on your phone before you set off.

FAQ - Before you cross

What if the weather doesn’t allow the crossing?

The skipper decides, always on safety grounds. If the river isn’t safe, we don’t sail — and you get your money back in full.

Do I need to book?

No. You can turn up at the pier and cross. Booking online holds your place at the time you choose — handy for groups and cyclists.

Can I bring my bike?

Yes: +€1 per bike, +€2 per e-bike. Up to 11 cyclists cross in one go with their bikes. Cargo bikes or trailers: get in touch first.

Can I bring my dog?

Yes. Your dog crosses with you.

How long does the crossing take?

A few minutes — under ten, bank to bank.

Where exactly do I board?

In Caminha, at Cais do Camarido, Rua Foz do Minho, by the mouth of the river. In A Guarda, at A Pasaxe — the old ferry terminal — a few metres from the A Rede building.
